Biology

Biology studies living systems from microscopic cells to ecosystems such as forests and wetlands. A degree from the biology department prepares you to make a difference as an educator, medical professional, scientist or environmental advocate.

All programs give you a firm grounding in research and career preparation. You begin to learn research during your first year. As an upper-level student, you can participate in advanced research projects with faculty mentors. You can earn a general biology degree, or you can add one of four concentrations if you want a focused degree. A biomedical science degree is available if you want to pursue a medical career. These degrees ready you for graduate studies or professional schools. You also can earn an education degree to teach high school science. Additionally, you can earn a master’s degree in biology.

Our majors scored in the 94th percentile on the Biology Major Field Test, a nation-wide standardized test used to evaluate student learning and curriculum effectiveness.
